What's on

Port Meadow Bailey Bridge – this modular steel military bridge has been in use for over 75 years and was added to the Oxford Heritage Asset Register in 2022. It was a highly innovative design for its time, with an amazing story, making a huge contribution towards ending WW2 and still used for post war disaster relief.  Described at the time as a “Wonder Bridge”, Supreme Commander Eisenhower apparently put it in his top three technological and engineering developments of WW2. This 30-45 minute talk at the bridge will cover the bridges development, it's uses, construction, why this particular bridge is here and it’s future.

Location: South western (Medley) end of Port Meadow by the Thames Path. What3Words: proven.chill.owls

OX2 6ED (for Walton Well car park - if arriving by car. Attendees then need to cross the Meadow from here to the bridge)
