We support this planning application. The Muniment Tower is a designated heritage asset within the Oxford Central Conservation Area. This proposal outlines emergency interventions necessary to repair the failing lead roof of the tower. Shallow stepping of the roof has led to moisture collecting and becoming trapped under the lead, oxidising the panels. This puts the medieval collections housed within the tower below at risk.
The proposed reroofing of the Muniment Tower will use like-for-like materials, whilst minorly altering the roof’s structure to promote better draining and to accommodate insulation. The repair and regilding of the Weathervane will also benefit the surrounding public realm.
