Redevelopment of vacant commercial sites in Oxford is a sustainable way to provide for the growing housing need within the city. We recognise that amendments have been made to the original designs to provide a development more in line with the surrounding character area.

Whilst we recognise that an energy and sustainability study has been submitted to support this application, we are concerned that the existing buildings are still within their useful lifespan. It is unfortunate that a more sustainable approach involving the adaptive reuse of the existing buildings could not have been reached.

We recommend that a Whole Life Carbon Assessment be carried out to asses the additional carbon cost of demolition and rebuilding.
