Castle at 950- Son et Lumiere
"Different roads lead to the same castle" - George R. R. Martin
On Friday 19 November, Oxford Castle & Prison was transformed into a light spectacular, telling the history of the site across the ages. This was the culmination of a two-year partnership between TORCH, part of the Humanities division at the University of Oxford, and Oxford Preservation Trust working with local historians, artists, musicians, academics, and lots of local schoolchildren.
This was a creation by artists Ross Ashton (Projection Studio) and Karen Monid (Sound Artist), whose stunning light show was projected onto St George’s tower and D-wing wowed the over 2000 people who came to enjoy the sight.
The Son et Lumiere is just one of the many events helping celebrate the Castle at 950. See more of our events to celebrate the castle's anniversary HERE, and don't forget to visit the Castle Mound after dark, which will be illuminated each night in the lead-up to Christmas.
