The Big Help Out

To mark His Majesty The King’s Coronation Oxford Preservation Trust held two volunteer events as part of the nationwide Big Help Out campaign. The Big Help Out is a voluntary initiative aimed at encouraging volunteering throughout the UK and was a great success with people volunteering up and down the country. Volunteers are crucial to the success of Oxford Open Doors, which last year saw over 110 special Oxford venues open to 25,000 visitors. This year’s volunteer recruitment began with a relaxed afternoon at Jericho Coffee Traders at the Castle with thanks to all those who signed up to help, so save the date for Oxford Open Doors 2023 on 9 & 10 September and this year’s theme is ‘Everyday Oxford’.

The sun shone for our green spaces volunteer day later in the week when a mix of new and familiar faces joined us at Larkins Lane Field, OPT’s newest green space bought to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, volunteers lopped, chopped and scythed to improve animal habitats and increase accessibility for visitors.

If this has inspired you to get involved in Oxford Open Doors 2023 or to help keep OPTs green spaces beautiful and accessible for all please email info@oxfordpreservation.org.uk to register your interest and for more information about volunteering with OPT click here.
