St Mary's Church, Iffley - St Mary's Church, Sunday 11th September, 14:30 - 17:00
Iffley Church is not only a sumptuous and almost unaltered Romanesque building, standing above the River Thames just 3km downstream from Folly Bridge and surrounded by ancient farmhouses and fields. It is also a place of extraordinary beauty and peace. Visitors can walk and picnic in the Glebe Field, watch the documentary film of Annora’s enclosure in the Church Hall (a historic barn, and later the village school) as well as visiting St Mary’s Church. The church has clearly been loved and cared for throughout its 860 year history. People of all ages are awed by its massive architecture, torrents of carved stones and curious, thought-provoking detail.
