Venue:
St John's College

St John’s College was founded in 1555 and is situated in the heart of the city. One of the University of Oxford’s larger colleges, St John’s offers the visitor historical buildings in traditional quadrangles and award-winning modern architecture, all set within beautiful gardens.

The College is delighted to participate in Oxford Open Doors on Sunday 10 September. We will be open from 10.00 am – 5.00 pm with an exciting mix of talks, self-guided tours – including a children’s treasure hunt – and exhibitions.

We will have talks by: the artist Susanna Heron; Professor William Whyte, Professor of Architectural and Social History; Michael Riordan, College Archivist; Dr Petra Hofmann, College Librarian;  Dr Geoffrey Tyack, Architectural Historian.

Exhibitions will include the opening of the Laudian Vestments, a display of the College’s remarkable collection of late medieval liturgical vestments and embroidery and an exhibition by Professor Hannah Skoda, Tutorial Fellow in Hsitory, on ‘Nostalgia’.

This year we will be offering tours of the St John’s Gardens and a tour of the portraits in Hall (numbers are limited so pre-booking is advised) as well as self-guided tours around College. For children there will be a Find the Lambs Treasure Hunt.

Snacks, cakes, coffee and cold drinks will be available (payable by bank card only).
