The first breaking of the 4-minute mile was made on the Iffley Road running track. Visit the famous track and make yourself stronger, fitter and healthier, just like Roger Bannister did.

Discover Iffley Road Sports, enjoy a free swim (adults only), join in or watch a wide variety other activities, experience a warm welcome and have a tour or enjoy the cafe. 

If you would like to participate in any of the free sports activities (squash, badminton, basketball, walking and running) please remember to bring your own equipment and shoes.

University of Oxford Sport, Iffley Road Facilities – What’s On - What’s on is subject to last minute changes and additions.  It might get even better.

Join a short tour of the site at 11am, 2pm and 3pm.

If you would like to participate in any of the free sports activities (squash, badminton, basketball, walking and running) please remember to bring your own equipment and shoes.

OLD SPORTS HALL: You can watch Fencing 10 – 12, Kickboxing 11 – 12 and Jiu Jitsu 12 – 2pm.

Free badminton courts will be available from 12 noon for you to play.

ACER NETHERCOTT, NEW SPORTS HALL: Free badminton courts and free basketball throw around space will be set up in this new hall.  In the afternoon we may have clubs giving demonstrations of their sports.  These have not yet been confirmed.

ROWING TANK: Try out our rowing tank, open 1 – 3pm.  Sit indoors but experience rowing in a river.  Rowing coaches will be on hand to advise you.  First come first served; you may have to queue.

POOL (Adults Only): Our high quality pool is open between 12.30 and 2pm for adults to swim for free.  Try it out, see if you can detect our lower than usual level of chlorine. 

TRACK: The famous 4 minute mile track will be open for walkers and runners.  We have arranged different time slots for walkers and runners to ensure comfort for all.  No need to sign up just turn up at one of the following times.

Walkers: 10 – 10.30, 12.00 – 13.00 and 14.00 – 15.00

Runners: 13.00 – 14.00 and 15.00 – 16.00

Between 10.30 and 12 noon Helen and Douglas House are using the track to train for their sponsored half marathon.  Go to their website to join them.

SQUASH: The courts are open all day to play for free, bring your own equipment and book in at Reception.
