Key Learning Centre, Oxford Castle - Recent Archaeological Work in Oxford - Festival of Archaeology - Thursday 16 July, 6pm
David Radford, the City Council Archaeologist, will talk about exciting recent archaeological discoveries around Oxford. Over the last year excavations undertaken in advance of new development have uncovered remains that have provided new insights into the character and development of Oxford and its hinterland, for example a Roman pottery manufacturing compound at the Swan School in Marston, the remains of Norman buildings outside of the former West Gate, a likely Tudor workshop on Market Street and the remains of lost 18th century formal gardens at Trinity College.
