With clear blue skies and spirits high, this weekend saw over 30,000 visits take place to over 130 venues and events across Oxford. Highlights included trips along the Oxford canal, a brass band at All Souls, family fun at Christ Church and an organ recital at St Johns. Mosques, churches and the synagogue all opened their doors, and with fire engines, Morris cars and buses new and old there was something for all to enjoy.
The day began with Philip Pullman unveiling nine new gargoyles, designed by Oxfordshire schoolchildren, on the Bodleian Library - the culmination of a competition which began three years ago in a partnership between Oxford University and Oxford Preservation Trust
Richard Jarman, Head of Government & Community Relations at the University of Oxford said: "I was absolutely delighted to see so many of the local community and the visiting public out and about this weekend with the Oxford Open Doors brochures. The event becomes more popular each year."
Debbie Dance, Director of Oxford Preservation Trust adds ‘what a wonderful weekend, we have all had. It was a joy to see so many local people looking around their City with fresh eyes. We are so lucky to live here and hope we have helped to build a little extra pride in our place.’
