Hidden Oxford revealed through Oxford Open Doors!

Hidden Oxford revealed through Oxford Open Doors!

If you are not yet a member of Oxford Preservation Trust (OPT), then there is no better time to join than now!  This month sees the build up to the highlight of our year – Oxford Open Doors.

OPT organise this annual event, working in partnership with the University of Oxford and it’s a chance to share in Oxford’s wonderful places and spaces – opening doors which are normally closed to the public.  This year’s theme is ‘Hidden Oxford’ and has attracted our many partners to open even more doors for us.  The event will take place 9th – 10th September and is free, but there are some very special members only events which take place from Monday 4th September – Friday 8th September.

Members can enjoy:

  • A fascinating tour of the OPT Awards Winners (2016) –  led by Architectural Historian and OPT Trustee Geoffrey Tyack.
  • A unique tour of All Souls College – beat the crowds in this pre Open Doors tour and enjoy this magnificent College with its striking twin towers by Hawksmoor and famous Codrington Library.
  • Two Painted Rooms – A very special opportunity to enjoy not one, but two different buildings with beautiful Elizabethan wall paintings.
  • Stunning Oxford views and rare art at Nuffield College – Explore Nuffield’s outstanding art collection with Chairman of the Art Committee, Richard Mayou.  Enjoy pieces rarely seen and visit the Tower Room with stunning views over Oxford and beyond.
  • An inspiring lecture at The Cohen Quad with award winning Architect, Alison Brooks.  This thought provoking lecture focuses on ‘Future Heritage: Collegiate Architecture for the 21st Century’.

These really are very special events for members only, so why not join us?  As well as the extra events at Oxford Open Doors, you can also enter the members ballot to win a place on the tour of the Radcliffe Camera on Tuesday 26th September at 2.30pm.

But it doesn’t stop there.  As a member, year round you can enjoy:

  • Free year-round access to the Castle Mound and Oxford Castle visitor attraction Oxford Castle Unlocked.
  • 10% discount at the Castle Gift Shop.
  • 10% discount in the newly refurbished Castleyard Café.
  • 15% discount at the Victoria Arms Pub on the banks of the Cherwell at Old Marston – famed for its literary links and Morse/Lewis connections.
  • A varied programme of annual activities including lectures, visits and walks in town and country.

All about us.

Oxford Preservation Trust is passionate about protecting Oxford’s extraordinary and wonderful past and guiding its exciting future.  Since 1927 we’ve been the custodians of land and buildings with its fingers of green running into and through the City, where ‘town meets country’.  Every year we work hard to make Oxford more accessible so that this ‘jewel in a sea of green’ can be shared and enjoyed by all. We are grateful to our members and volunteers for their time and donations which allows us to carry out this important work.
